Guidelines for Books:
NEW BOOKS:  Due to the fact that the books will be delivered to babies in a sterile environment
(NICU), all books MUST be brand new with as little handling as possible.  For this reason, please no
used books - not even “gently used” ones.

RELIGIOUS BOOKS:  Due to the various religious beliefs of the families in the NICU, our
beneficiaries have asked that we avoid donating books that are overtly religious in nature.

TYPES OF BOOKS:  Typically when choosing books for babies, the suggestion is to choose books with
just a few words on each page.  These suggestions are great for a full-term baby.  HOWEVER, for
parents who are trying to connect with their premature babies through oral communication, the
suggestion is for the books to be “picture storybooks”.  It would be helpful if the books were of
medium to large size, with lots of pictures, and a long storyline (ie. lots of words!).  The purpose is for
the parents of the premature babies to have an opportunity to engage in an experience that involves a
10-15 minute period of time involving storytelling and bonding with their little one.  Lots of times we
find that children’s books traditionally geared towards 4-7 year olds work really well in these
circumstances.

Often, people will ask what Cameron’s favorite stories were.  We include them here to give others an
idea of the type of stories that might be appropriate.  There are MANY other titles that would be just
as suitable for these purposes.
o        Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel
o        Stellaluna
o        Love You Forever
o        Where the Wild Things Are
o        Danny and The Dinosaur
o        The Giant Jam Sandwich
o        The Poky Little Puppy
o        The Little Engine that Could
o        The Gingerbread Man
o        Rainbow Fish
Would you like to help spread the word about Project: Cameron's Story?
We are always looking for ways to share Cameron's story.  This magnet is a
perfect way to do just that.  While we do not receive any portion of the profits
from this product, it is a great way to generate interest/support for the
foundation.
"I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a
clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it,
without knowing what's going to happen next." -- Gilda Radner
